Most people think that being obese makes them look not only less fashionable but also unattractive in life, but it doesn't end there. Obesity today is an epidemic and it's a disease that is actually spreading fast accross the world. It doesn't only affect adults alone but kids are also affected too.
Obesity means having too much fat on your body and this is as a result of eating too much of the wrong kind of foods especially junk food and not doing enough excercise. The lack of exercise and high cholesterol brought by eating the wrong kind of food damages the proper functioning of your heart and blood vessels and when this occurs it leads to high blood pressure, stroke, cancer, heart disease, Lung disease, gall bladder and other heart conditions.
Being obesed also puts a strain on joints and bones that has to support more weight than before which leads to arthritis because the amount of fat around your joints and bones are far too much. Excess weight on the body can also lead to apnea. which is pausing of breathing during sleep however obesity can be cured with determination, patience and effort but if you really want to lose weight you should talk to a physician.
How To Recognise Obesity
Obesity can easily be recognised by:
1. Checking your BMI (Body Mass Index). A body mass index is when you measure your weight scaled accross to your height. The index show you the amount of fat stored on your body. A BMI over 30 is cause for concern and may require medical care.
2. Weighing yourself regularly will let you know when your weight is increasing, so take note of your weight any time you weigh yourself and compare them.
3. Recognising some developing symptoms like swollen ankle, unnecessary protruding stomach, snoring, apnea etc will let you know if you are becoming obese.
Causes Of Obesity
Environmental factors: This includes lifestyle behaviour such as what a person eats and the level of activities that he or she does. When you eat a lot of junk food especially fatty foods and high sugar diets and don't excercise at all then your body tend to store much fat in the body and this will gradually lead to obesity.
Genetic factors: this is when obesity tends to run in the family i.e a genetic link. Although genes can directly cause obesity disorder such as prader-willi syndrome but this does not always predict future health. If there are multiple genes in the body it may increase ones vulnerable to obesity and that happens when there is so much fat in the body with little or no exercise.
Psychological factors: this influences eating habits in such a way that people eat in response to negative emotions like, sadness, boredom, depression, anger.
Lack of Exercises: this can also lead to obesity because a healthy exercise regime is very important in preventing obesity. Exercise at least once a day for betwen 10 to 30 minutes.
